Stan Lee Jokes About Why He's Disappointed In His 'Black Panther' Cameo

If you're watching a movie featuring the likes of characters under the Marvel umbrella, there's a pretty solid chance you'll see comic book icon Stan Lee in one of his signature cameos. To date, Lee — the creator behind Spider-Man, Hulk, and the X-Men, just to name a few — has appeared in over forty Marvel properties.

While speaking with fellow creator Todd McFarlane earlier today at ACE Comic Con in Glendale, Arizona, Lee joked about his upcoming cameo in Ryan Coogler's Black Panther.

"I'm a little disappointed in my Black Panther cameo," Lee joked. "I had wanted a great fight scene where I fight the Black Panther to a standstill."

Even though he didn't get the showdown he wanted with T'Challa (Chadwick Boseman), Lee still reminded fans to go see the film when it hits the silver screen on February 16.

"I didn't get that, but I want you to see the movie anyway," Lee urged. " Even though it's not my greatest cameo, you owe it to me to see it."

Lee's first cameo in a Marvel property came in the made-for-TV movie The Trial of the Incredible Hulk in 1989 while his first cinematic cameo role came in 2000's X-Men. Since then, he's featured in virtually every Marvel property, regardless of it being under the Marvel Studios' Marvel Cinematic Universe umbrella, Fox's X-Men family of properties, or Sony's five movies in the Spider-Man franchise.

Most recently, Lee cut Thor's (Chris Hemsworth) hair to prepare him to battle Hulk in Thor: Ragnarok and made a surprise cameo as a limo driver in Hulu's Runaways. He's popped up in both Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Agent Carter on ABC and even had n cameo is Disney's animated movie Big Hero 6.

Joking with McFarlane at ACE Comic Con, Lee went on toot his own horn, claiming his cameos are a breeze for the crew to film.

"[It takes] Just one minute. I'm known as one take Lee. I never repeat a cameo," joked Lee. "I do it, they keep it, it goes into a museum and people centuries from now will find great pleasure in the artistry of Stan Lee."

As for Black Panther, the movies is tracking for a huge $120+ million opening weekend domestically when it opens in just over a month.

Black Panther is directed by Creed helmer Ryan Coogler. The film stars Chadwick Boseman, Danai Gurira, Andy Serkis, Michael B. Jordan, and Lupita Nyong'o. It is the 18th movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe which launched 10 years ago with Iron Man and directly precedes the massive Avengers: Infinity War ensemble.
