With Ant-Man and the Wasp being the next Marvel Studios film to enter production, details about the film’s star-studded cast were revealed during last weekend’s San Diego Comic-Con. One of the most surprising reveals was the Michelle Pfeiffer will be entering the Marvel Cinematic Universe, playing the original Wasp, Janet Van Dyne.

The news was met with pleasant surprise across much of social media – including, as it turns out, from Pfeiffer’s onscreen daughter, Evangeline Lilly.
Lilly, who reprises her role as Hope Van Dyne/Wasp in the upcoming film, recently took to Twitter to express her excitement about the casting announcement. You can check out the tweet below.

Pfeiffer is no stranger to the comic book film genre, previously appearing as Selina Kyle/Catwoman in Batman Returns. Still, the official onscreen appearance of Janet – who was only seen in the Wasp suit during a flashback in the first Ant-Man film – has been anticipated for quite some time.
Pfeiffer being cast in the role – and Lilly’s excitement towards her “new mom”, possibly indicates that Janet will have a significant role in the film. But more will be revealed when Ant-Man and the Wasp is released July 6th, 2018.
The film will be directed by Peyton Reed, with a story by Adam McKay and Paul Rudd and screenplay by Andrew Barrer and Gabriel Ferrari.
The film stars Paul Rudd as Ant-Man, Evangeline Lilly as The Wasp, with Michael Pena, Michael Douglas, David Dastmalchian, and Tip ‘T.I.’ Harris reprising their roles from Ant-Man‘s first installation. Joining the cast are Michelle Pfeiffer as the original Wasp, Janet Van Dyne, Laurence Fishburne as Bill Foster/Goliath, Randall Park as Agent Jimmy Woo, Walton Goggins as Sonny Burch, and Hannah John-Kamen as The Ghost.
Ant-Man and the Wasp is currently hovering at number 11 on Comicbook.com’s movie rankings.
