The second-biggest character in the film has yet to be cast.

Cable, Deadpool’s time-travelling companion, will have a major role in the film, but the role is still up for grabs. However, the competition just got easier, as perhaps the biggest name rumored for the role is not longer in the running.

While speaking to ComicBook.com’s Brandon Davis at CinemaCon, Deadpool 2 director David Leitch confirmed that Brad Pitt is no longer in the running for Cable.

Upon being asked about the Brad Pitt rumors, Leitch gave a very definitive response.

“We had a great meeting with Brad, he was incredibly interested in the property. Things didn’t work out schedule-wise. He’s a fan, and we love him, and I think he would’ve made an amazing Cable.”

After last week, many thought that Pitt may actually be the favorite to land the role. Rumored concept art featuring the actor as Cable, surfaced online and lead people to believe he was the front-runner. However, a couple of days later, there was a rumor that Michael Shannon currently the top choice.

With Pitt out of the equation, it looks like Shannon is the clear favorite to land Cable. Names like David Harbour and Russell Crowe have also been mentioned.

The Deadpool sequel is currently in pre-production. Reynolds will return with writer Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese. David Leitch will direct. The film will introduce Deadpool’s time-traveling mutant partner, Cable, as well as X-Force member Domino. Members of the original film’s supporting cast are also expected to return.

Deadpool stars Ryan Reynolds, Morena Baccarin, Ed Skrein, T.J. Miller, Gina Carano, Leslie Uggams, Brianna Hildebrand, and Stefan Kapiฤiฤ‡.
