Captain America: Civil War is looking to dominate this weekend's box. The film is projected to earn something in the region of $200 million in its debut weekend.
That means Civil War will likely become one of top five domestic box office opening weekends of all time. That top five list currently includes Star Wars: The Force Awakens ($248 million), Jurassic World ($208.8 million), The Avengers ($207.4 million), Avengers: Age of Ultron ($191.3 million) and Iron Man 3 ($174 million). See more in the ComicBook.com box office database.
Civil War opened internationally to a similar total, $200.2 million. That total does not include China's box office, one of the largest in the world. The film will open in China on the same day as its North American debut.
Marvel's Captain America: Civil War finds Steve Rogers leading the newly formed team of Avengers in their continued efforts to safeguard humanity. But after another incident involving the Avengers results in collateral damage, political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability, headed by a governing body to oversee and direct the team. The new status quo fractures the Avengers, resulting in two camps—one led by Steve Rogers and his desire for the Avengers to remain free to defend humanity without government interference, and the other following Tony Stark's surprising decision to support government oversight and accountability.
