When it comes to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, there are some stars who’ve come to embody the heroes they play. Robert Downey Jr. has become synonymous with Iron Man, and talent like Chris Hemsworth seem as if they were born to play Thor. Amongst that list lies Chris Evans, a New England native who is know as the definitive version of Captain America. Fans last saw the actor suit up as the hero back in Captain America: Civil War where Steve Rogers was stripped of his Avengers status. However, it doesn’t look like Evans will be kept from the character for long.

During an interview with Ellen DeGeneres, Evans opened up a bit about his future with Captain America. It was there the actor confirmed he would begin filming Avengers: Infinity War in May after a slew of talent already shot their parts.

“They’ve been filming since February. I don’t start until May; There’s so many people involved,” he explained.

A bit later, Evans was then asked by the host whether or not his tenure as Captain America was coming to a close. Fans have been distraught over the prospect of the actor’s leave given his dwindling contract, and Evans diplomatically told DeGeneres that his commitment was coming to a close.

“My contract is up,” he said. “I have Avengers 3 and 4. We do Avengers 3 now; 4 is the latter part – and then after that is the end of my contract.”

Earlier this year, Evans did say that he would be interested in keeping Captain America in his pocket. Talking to Collider, the star said, “I love the character. The only reason it would end is ’cause my contract is up. After Avengers 4, my contract is done. Talk to Marvel. If we engage further, I’d be open to it. I love the character. It’s almost like high school. You certainly always look to senior year, and then, all of a sudden, senior year happens and you’re like, “I don’t know if I’m ready to go.” It’s tough thinking about not playing the guy.”

Avengers: Infinity War is described by Marvel Studios as the culmination of everything in the Marvel Cinematic Universe since Iron Man in 2008. The movie is filming now under directors Anthony and Joe Russo, from a screenplay by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely.

The expansive confirmed cast includes Robert Downey, Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Jeremy Renner, Scarlett Johansson, Tom Holland, Elizabeth Olsen, Paul Bethany, Sebastian Stan, Benedict Cumberbatch, Benedict Wong, Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Karen Gillan, Vin Diesel, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper, Pom Klementieff, and Josh Brolin as the villain Thanos. Avengers: Infinity War and its as-yet-untitled sequel are filming back-to-back for a May 4, 2018 and May 3, 2019 release, respectively.
