Daredevil's Next Chapter
Ironically enough, Daredevil himself is still considered to be tragic loss, as he was last seen with Elektra at ground zero of the collapsing Midland Circle building. We know that Murdock survives, as The Defenders ends with the final shot of Matt Murdock laid up in bed within a New York convent. It was a moment that seems to be setting up the next season of Daredevil for an adaptation of a famous Marvel Comics storyline:
BORN AGAIN
"Born Again" is a 1986 Daredevil comic book storyline in which Matt Murdock has his secret identity sold to Wilson Fisk/Kingpin by someone close to him (Karen Page), allowing Fisk to systematically dismantle Murdock/Daredevil on both sides of the mask.
The story is famous for the very deep and introspective character story that pushes Murdock to the brink of sanity. It's also famous for introducing Murdock's mother, the nun known as Sister Maggie, having Murdock battle both a violent Daredevil impostor and a supervillain named Nuke, and turning Karen Page into a drug-addicted porn actress.
In the end, Matt Murdock assumes a new identity and low-level job as a cook, content to live with Karen and fight crime as Daredevil.
The ending of The Defenders Netflix miniseries certainly leaves Daredevil in a place where "Born Again" could be the Season Three story arc as the clues have been laid out pretty clearly. For more on that, be sure to read our breakdown of exactly that.
