After Guardians of the Galaxy was released a couple of years ago, director James Gunn sent every Marvel fan on a wild goose chase. He revealed that there was one major Easter egg from the film that had yet to be found.
While the search has continued to this day, a new theory from ScreenCrush believes it has cracked the case.
According to the theory, the secret Easter egg is tied to the Thor films. The idea here is that Guardians of the Galaxy actually revealed the history of Frost Giants.
If you recall, The Collector uses a series of ancient video clips to tell the Guardians about the Infinity Stones. He talks about the Celestials using the stones to mow down entire planets of people that they didn't deem worthy.
The theory goes into detail about the world that is seen being destroyed in the video, noting that the people seen running from the Celestial look a lot like Asgardians, and the buildings in the background are similar to the ones found in Asgard.
What really drives the theory is the image of the man on the left of the screen. The video notes that he doesn't get torn to shreds like the other people who come into contact with the stone. The man in the clip also has markings on his face similar to the ones on the Frost Giants.
The theory goes on to say that it believes the man depicted is Laufey, Loki's father, and that the planet being destroyed was Jotunheim, the home of the Frost Giants. The theory wraps up by saying that the strongest people on the planet survived, evolving into Frost Giants.
Could this theory be the Easter egg James Gunn has been hiding for years?
