'Guardians Of The Galaxy' Star Michael Rooker Questions If Dying Means Gone

Yondu's death and funeral in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 were some of the most emotional of the film. While fans are still mourning the loss of the Peter Quill's blue-skinned Ravager foster dad, though, actor Michael Rooker has questions about whether dead means gone.

At his panel at Salt Lake Comic Con this weekend a fan told Rooker that if there was one thing that she could change about Yondu it would be making sure that he did not die. In the film, Yondu sacrifices himself by giving Peter Quill (Chris Pratt) the only functional space suit and letting him escape the bomb blast that destroys Ego. It's an emotional scene, but Rooker doesn't quite see it as an end.

"You know you have this strange idea of dying," Rooker told the audience. "I don't understand why people think dying is like, gone. No! I'm just saying! I'm not giving any hints right now! I'm just saying that Yondu has moved on."

The idea of death and moving on being related isn't exactly a new concept in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Both Steve Rogers and James "Bucky" Barnes appear to die in Captain America: The First Avenger only for both characters to "move on" in a sense, coming back decades later, time having moved forward in their absences. And while Yondu's death appeared more concrete on screen than those of Steve and Bucky, Rooker did have an interesting point about Yondu's arrow and the larger nature of the universe.

"I mean, there was this whole arrow of my essence, right?" Rooker said. "There's this arrow and it flew off into space. It's going somewhere right? I mean, right? Don't you think? If it's going it could, maybe, perhaps one day come back. Hint! That's a hint, Marvel!"

It's a hint that fans hope Marvel has already taken. Despite James Gunn previously asserting that Yondu is in fact dead there have been rumors that Yondu may appear in some fashion in the upcoming Avengers: Infinity War. Earlier this year Rooker shared photos of himself on Instagram wearing an Avengers: Infinity War beanie at a Starbucks location near where the film was shooting in Atlanta at that time.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is now available on Blu-ray, DVD, and Digital HD.
