Hollywood doesn't seem to be slowing down with its superhero blockbusters, and some of the industry's biggest stars on signing onto the projects these days. Josh Brolin first stepped into the world of comic book movies with The Avengers back in 2012, but the star recently agreed to step into the X-Men franchise for a spell.
However, according to Brolin, the actor came pretty close to letting Deadpool 2 walk right by him.
During a recent interview with Collider, the actor was asked how he came into getting the role of Cable, a time-traveling mutant from Marvel's extensive universe. The actor said he was able to take on the gig because of a schedule shift, but Brolin almost let a previous project of his take precedent over the mutant.
"At first I was like, 'I don't know. I want to do George and Tammy. My wife - thank god - said to just read it. Why are you even talking, just read it," Brolin said, admitting to his initial hesitation. "I was thinking [too big] about the four-picture deal. So, on my phone I remember I read it."
Continuing, Brolin went on to say it the Deadpool sequel's humor is what got him invested in the project.
"It was so reverent and funny and hysterical that once I got through it I was like, 'that's it' and I had no idea [about] the fan-base. I had no idea what it represented, and I think we've made something really special."
Fans have been eager to see Cable walk into the Deadpool franchise since its first film debuted. The movie ended with a tag-scene teasing the mutant's involvement with the sequel, but fans could not agree on who would be the best actor to take on the role. When Brolin was confirmed for the gig, plenty of comic book die-hards were stunned as many thought the star's on-going role as Thanos would preclude him from Deadpool 2. Now, it looks like Brolin will get to double-up on all of Marvel's goodness, and fans certainly aren't complaining.
