Logan has officially been nominated for an Academy Award. The Academy today announced Logan as one film nominated for the Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay.
Scott Frank, James Mangold, and Michael Green wrote the screenplay for Logan from a story written by Mangold. Wolverine was created by Roy Thomas, Len Wein, and John Romita Sr.
The other nominees in the category are Call Me By Your Name, The Disaster Artist, Molly’s Game, and Mudbound.
20th Century Fox CEO Stacey Snider had previously expressed confidence that Logan would be a contender for an Academy Award nomination.
“Absolutely,” Snider said. “The way it combines classic storytelling with superhero lore is brilliant.”
There was some speculation that Patrick Stewart could receive his first Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor for Logan. The Academy did not nominate Stewart.
“The fact that Patrick has not received those kinds of acknowledgments is astounding to me,” Logan producer Hutch Parker said of the idea previously.
“It gave Patrick freedom that he hasn’t had, certainly in these kinds of films,” said Mangold, who directed the film. “Patrick attacked this thing with ferocity. He was fearless about playing Charles’ weaknesses as well as his strengths. He wasn’t worried about the vanity of it.”
Logan was also nominated for an award from the Writers Guild of America, as well as several other awards from within the film industry and from the film press, including ComicBook.com’s own Golden Issue Award for Best Movie.
Logan currently has an 87.5 ComicBook.com Composite Score, the second highest ComicBook.com composite score of any comic book movie.
