Marvel Studios has reportedly released a new synopsis for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, the sequel to Marvel's hit 2014 cosmic adventure film. The new film describes the ragtag band of adventurers as a "family," teases the mystery of Peter Quill's father, and promises appearances by classic characters from the Marvel Comics Universe:

Set to the backdrop of 'Awesome Mixtape #2,' Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 continues the team's adventures as they traverse the outer reaches of the cosmos. The Guardians must fight to keep their newfound family together as they unravel the mysteries of Peter Quill's true parentage. Old foes become new allies and fan-favorite characters from the classic comics will come to our heroes' aid as the Marvel cinematic universe continues to expand.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 will be the 15th installment of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, following 2016's Marvel's Doctor Strange. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 was filmed at Pinewood Atlanta Studios in Fayette County, Georgia. Filming commenced in February 2016 and wrapped in June 2016.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 will feature the equally anticipated new Awesome Mix Vol. 2, a new soundtrack to the life of Peter Quill and the Guardians.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is written and directed by James Gunn and stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Michael Rooker, Karen Gillan, Sean Gunn, Glenn Close, Pom Klementieff, Elizabeth Debicki, Chris Sullivan, and Kurt Russell.
