Every movie Marvel Studios releases is chock full o’ easter eggs, ranging from clever nods to source material, to references to older movies, to foreshadowing of important happenings yet to come.
Spider-Man: Homecoming is no different — in fact, it might be loaded with more easter eggs than any other film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, especially given that it deals with many elements established in the Avengers and Iron Man films that have since been forgotten.

There are tons of awesome references to different Spider-Man comics, movies, characters, as well as mentions and hints at the greater MCU.
We’ve already covered the identity of Peter Parker’s A.I. in his new suit., the use of the old cartoon theme song, Donald Glover’s role and what his presence could mean for the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. We’ve even mentioned that subtle reference to the previous iteration of the franchise from the Amazing Spider-Man.
But here are some other easter eggs that you may have missed, including a bunch of homages paid to the various geniuses of the MCU. Check them out below and see what you may have missed from Spider-Man: Homecoming.
DAMAGE CONTROL
We’ve covered the fact that Damage Control was going to be in Spider-Man: Homecoming. The cult-classic comic book is actually a favorite among some of those working here at ComicBook.com. The comic from Ernie Colón and the late, great Dwayne McDuffie uses a humorous take on the Marvel Universe through the eyes of a repair firm who cleaned up after superhero battles.
In the comics, Damage Control is a private company established in a partnership between Tony Stark and Wilson Fisk, one of the rare times Iron Man and the Kingpin teamed up for the greater good. In the movies Stark establishes the government-sanctioned clean up crew, but both versions are run by Anne Marie Hoag.
She makes a brief appearance in the opening scenes of Spider-Man: Homecoming played by actor Tyne Daly, shutting down Adrian Toomes’ (Michael Keaton) cleanup operation after the Avengers’ Battle of New York. Side note, Tyne Daly’s brother is Tim Daly, the actor who voiced Superman in the ’90s animated series.
Unfortunately we didn’t get to see a scene of the comptroller Albert Cleary demand Dr. Doom pay on a defaulted bill, but at least its a possibility in the future!
GENIUSES OF THE MCU
Given that Peter Parker attends Midtown School of Science and Technology, it makes sense that the institution would pay homage to the geniuses that helped develop the modern world as it is today.
That includes Albert Einstein, Nikola Tesla, Marie Curie, and… Howard Stark.
Don’t forget Abraham Erskine. Or Bruce Banner, for that matter!
In the beginning of the movie, when Peter arrives at school and Ned asks if he’d like to help him build his new LEGO Death Star, the scene briefly shows a mural in their high school featuring Einstein as well as MCU geniuses Howard Stark and Abraham Erskein.
Stark is the father of one Tony Stark, the man who helped invent the arc reactor (finished by his son in the present day) and established S.H.I.E.L.D.
Erskine perfected the Super Soldier formula that was lost when he was assassinated, creating Captain America and inspiring attempts to replicate it leading to both the Hulk and his enemy the Abomination.
Later, when Peter is in science class ignoring the lesson so he can make up some webbing cartridges, the classroom is decorated with pictures of other great scientific minds including one Bruce Banner.
Speaking of the Midtown school, a sign reads that it was established in 1962, the same year Amazing Fantasy #15 (and Spider-Man’s first appearance) released in stores.
PETER’S CLASSMATES, TEACHER, AND PRINCIPAL
Betty Brant might not be the only classmate at Peter’s school who has a major presence in the comic books. Sure, the future reporter at the Daily Bugle has a sort of origin story in Spider-Man: Homecoming as the co-anchor for the morning announcements at the school
But the film also features other classmates that might have significant histories in the comic books. One Peter’s teammates at the academic decathlon is Abe (played by Abraham Attah), who could be Abe Brown AKA the Black Tiger.
Another is Liz Allan’s friend Cindy (played by Tiffany Espensen), who might be Cindy Moon AKA Silk.
Actor Martin Starr previously played a computer lab tech at Culver University in The Incredible Hulk, and now he plays Peter’s teacher in Spider-Man: Homecoming. He could easily have graduated and become a teacher in New York City.
And lastly, actor Kenneth Choi plays Parker’s principal. And if his face and the name “Principal Morita” are familiar, it’s because he is the grandson of one of the Howling Commandoes from Captain America: The First Avenger. Jim Morita served alongside Captain America in World War II, and his photo is on display in the principal’s office when Parker has a meeting with him later in the movie.
COMIC BOOK REFERENCES
There are a couple of license plates references in the movie, the first one being another nod to Miles Morales though this one is more subtle.
When Spider-Man attempts to extract information from Aaron Davis (Donald Glover) about the Vulture’s whereabouts, you might notice the license plate on the criminal’s car reads “UCS-M01.” That references Ultimate Comics Spider-Man #1, the first issue of Miles Morales’ Spider-Man series and the debut of Aaron Davis/The Prowler.
Later, when Spider-Man confronts the Vulture, the Shocker and their goons on the ferry, one license plate reads “SM2-0563.” The Vulture and the Tinkerer both debuted in Amazing Spider-Man #2, which released in May, 1963.
Another newer reference comes earlier in the movie when the “Avengers” attempt to rob the ATMS, directly homaging a scene in Ultimate Spider-Man #42 from Brian Bendis and Mark Bagley.
Bagley even gets a shoutout in the movie when his name is scrawled in graffiti on a wall behind Parker during a brief respite from heroics.
There’s also two homages to iconic Spider-Man visuals from the comics — including the scene where Spider-Man’s mask floats in the water and he sees it cover half of the reflection of his face. The half Spidey/half Parker image is famous in Spider-Man comics and used to great effect, often to show his Spider-Sense when he’s not in costume.
Another visual references Steve Ditko‘s iconic sequence in Amazing Spider-Man #33, showing Spider-Man crushed by debris and screaming for help before realizing he can only depend on himself. It’s this moment where Peter realizes that even though he’s testing his abilities to their limits, only he can do what’s necessary to save the day.
