If there is one thing Marvel fans like, it would be a crossover. Since Iron Man made his live-action debut in 2008, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been threaded together by its intricate continuity. The franchise had its first big come-together with The Avengers, and the MCU has only grown increasingly tight thanks to films like Captain America: Civil War. However, these films have failed to nod to another growing part of the MCU, and fans are wondering if Marvel’s television series will ever get their cinematic spotlight.

From Agents of SHIELD to Daredevil, there’s been little to no crossover between Marvel’s shows and its blockbuster films. Fans have gradually started to petition for more tie-in between the two mediums, but progress has been slow. For many, it seems odd that all of Marvel’s heroes are ignoring one another despite their proximity in New York. Spider-Man has Queens while the Avengers cover Manhattan. Doctor Strange is tucked in Greenwich Village, and the Defenders cover their turf down in Hell’s Kitchen.
And, if one producer had it their way, then it seems like Spider-Man would already be familiar with his fellow vigilantes in the rundown area.
During a set visit, Screenrant had a chance to speak with Eric Carroll about Spider-Man: Homecoming and whether the MCU could one day support film-television crossovers. When asked if Spider-Man knew about the likes of Luke Cage or Daredevil, Carroll said their was no specific mention to those heroes in the film.
They’re “not specifically referenced in this movie, no,” he said.
“I think that’s something we all think would be really fun and it’s definitely a card I would love to see played, if not sooner rather than later. But as of now, it’s not referenced in this movie.”
The producer’s words seem more open than other Marvel creators who have all but shutdown the crossover’s appeal. With the MCU growing each year, it gets more complicated to piece in the Defenders to the franchise’s larger framework – but it is not impossible. Just a simple scene showing Daredevil at a court proceeding would be enough to get fans hyped. So, if the call to crossover ever comes, then hopefully Marvel is able to tie Spider-Man into the scene as well.
Peter Parker wouldn’t mind. The Brooklyn teen was thrilled to meet Captain America; He might go full fan-boy if he met Jessica Jones.
A young Peter Parker/Spider-Man (Tom Holland), who made his sensational debut in Captain America: Civil War, begins to navigate his newfound identity as the web-slinging super hero in Spider-Man: Homecoming. Thrilled by his experience with the Avengers, Peter returns home, where he lives with his Aunt May (Marisa Tomei), under the watchful eye of his new mentor Tony Stark (Robert Downey, Jr.). Peter tries to fall back into his normal daily routine โ distracted by thoughts of proving himself to be more than just your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man โ but when the Vulture (Michael Keaton) emerges as a new villain, everything that Peter holds most important will be threatened.
The cast features Tom Holland, Michael Keaton, Robert Downey Jr., Zendaya, Donald Glover, Jacob Batalon, Laura Harrier, Tony Revolori, Tyne Daly, Bokeem Woodbine, Logan Marshall-Green, and Marisa Tomei.
The film is being directed by Jon Watts (Cop Car), based on a screenplay by Jonathan Goldstein & John Francis Daley (Vacation reboot) and Jon Watts & Christopher Ford and Chris McKenna & Erik Sommers.
