The latest poster keeps with the colorful and offbeat posters released thus far, including the Thor: Ragnarok character posters that made their way online earlier this week.
Ragnarok certainly has a more distinctive look than its predecessors, and the move is an intentional one: director Taika Waititi has promised a different film from past Thor offerings, saying he considers Ragnarok his “Thor 1.”
“I’ve seen the other films and I respect them a lot. But I can’t spend too much time thinking about this as a threequel,” Waititi said. “Because then I’ll get tied up too much in respecting what went before, and respecting what’s gonna come after. It just, for me, has to be a standalone thing. [It] can be the only time I do this. And, you know, I just want to make it a type of version of a Marvel film in the best way possible.”
Tickets for the latest Marvel Studios blockbuster went on sale September 7.
Imprisoned on the other side of the universe, the mighty Thor finds himself in a deadly gladiatorial contest that pits him against the Hulk, his former ally and fellow Avenger. Thor’s quest for survival leads him in a race against time to prevent the all-powerful Hela from destroying his home world and the Asgardian civilization.
Starring Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Mark Ruffalo, Tessa Thompson, Jeff Goldblum, Karl Urban, Idris Elba, Benedict Cumberbatch, Anthony Hopkins and Cate Blanchett, Thor: Ragnarok opens November 3.
