The ability to wield Mjolnir, Thor’s famous hammer, has long been a key test of worthiness in the comics and the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While lifting a hammer may seem like a simple enough show of strength, Odin placed an enchantment on Mjonir is far more complex, only allowing a truly pure and noble spirit to lift it. There have been only two characters in the MCUโ Captain America and Visionโ who have proven their worth by effortlessly lifting the hammer. However, with the ever-expanding roster of heroes and even anti-heroes, there are a select few others who have the selfless nature and potential required to be worthy.

Here are six characters who have what it takes to wield the power of Thor.
1. Valkyrie

The last of the Valkyries is a character is not only strong in the physical sense, but emotionally as well. Though she was initially lost in a cycle of self-destruction and bitterness after Hela destoryed the rest of the Valkyries, her time with Thor and the Revengers helped her regain her purpose and a sense of responsibility. She courageously stepped up to lead her people and protect them from Hela and become their king in New Asgard, proving her selfless commitment to others.
Her journey is one of redemption and courage. She is a warrior who has faced down the very definition evil and came out the other side will a stronger will. Her willingness to put her life on the line and her sense of duty to her people show a level of selflessness and honor that makes her worthy of Thor’s hammer.
2. Peter Parker

Peter Parkerโs entire being is centered on the principle of great power coming with great responsibility. Despite his own personal struggles and a desire to live a normal life (he is a teenager, after all), he consistently and selflessly puts the needs of others before his own. He is a young man whose life has been defined by unimaginable loss and yet, he continues to fight the good fight without a single thought of personal gain.
His inherent goodness and unwavering moral code are what truly make him worthy. He has proven time and again that he is a hero not because he wants to be, but because he knows it is the right thing to do. His dedication to protecting the innocent and his willingness to sacrifice everything for the greater good are the exact qualities Mjolnir’s magic would recognize.
3. Sue Storm

Sue Storm is not only one of the most powerful members of The Fantastic Four, but also the team’s moral heart. In her MCU debut in Fantastic Four: First Steps, she proved to be perhaps the bravest and most unyielding member of Marvel’s First Family, refusing to sacrifice the life of her child or the larger world to Galactus. Her powers are defensive, focusing on protecting those around her, which speaks volumes about her nature.
Sue’s defining characteristic is her unwavering love of her family and her determination to protect them, and by extension, all of humanity. She consistently puts herself in harm’s way to save as many people as she can. Her selflessness and her strong sense of justice makes her a truly worthy candidate for the hammer’s power.
4. Foggy Nelson

Foggy Nelson may not have superpowers or a heroic alter ego, but his loyalty and moral integrity make him a true hero in his own right. He has stood by his best friend, Matt Murdock, through thick and thin since their college days, even when faced with the truth of his dangerous double life as Daredevil. Foggy’s refusal to abandon his friend and his belief in justice are his greatest strengths.
Despite the fear and uncertainty his connection with Daredevil brings, Foggy continues to fight for what is right in the courtroom in a way Matt cannot truly commit to with his dual life. His dedication to his clients and his pursuit of justice through the legal system shows a quiet but deep sense of honor. He is the heart and soul of Nelson and Murdock, which is the very essence of worthiness.
5. Loki

For most of his life, Loki was defined by deceit, jealousy, and self-serving ambition. However, his journey in Thor: Ragnarok and his subsequent Disney+ series, Loki, showed major character development. He chose to fight alongside his brother and risk his own life to save his people, proving that he finally accepted that he was a real prince of Asgard despite being adopted. His sacrifice in Infinity War was the culmination of his redemption arc.
Loki’s journey with the TVA in Loki further confirmed and expanded upon his character’s evolution. He saw the full scope of his actions and their consequences, and he made the conscious choice to become a hero. He finally embraced a “glorious purpose” not for himself, but for the greater good of all. This final act of selflessness and sacrifice proves that even the God of Mischief can become worthy.
6. Phil Coulson

Agent Phil Coulson is the very definition of a loyal and dedicated servant of a greater cause. He is a man with no powers or special tricks, but his intelligence, courage, and unbreakable faith in the ideals of SHIELD and the Avengers made him a linchpin of the early MCU. He was a constant and calming presence who inspired those around him to be better.
Coulson’s defining moment came with his death, which served as the catalyst for the Avengers finally coming together as a team. He sacrificed himself not for glory, but simply to give the heroes the push they needed to save the world. His life was a testament to his noble spirit and his quiet heroism, making him unquestionably worthy of the hammer’s power.
