Well, we’re definitely surprised by this news. And not pleasantly so. Alex Perez of The Cosmic Circus recently sat down for another Q&A with the publication’s Discord server to shed some light on things we can expect from Doomsday, Yelena Belova and her future in the franchise, as well as the Hulk hulking out more violently than we’ve seen from him before.

He also gave the disappointing news that we shouldn’t expect much from the upcoming MCU reset that we’re getting from Secret Wars. One fan asked, “Hey, Alex. When the reset happens in the MCU, will it erase what happened prior?” In response, Perez had this to say: “No. It’ll just be a quick scrub of details the MCU wants to sort of forget and redo. This will involve the resurrection of some heroes and villains as well as the erasure of some minor events that bother fans (and Kevin Feige), but all in all, it will be like 75-80% the original timeline, with some minor changes.”
This Feels Like A Disappointing Move From Marvel

If we’re being honest, parts of the MCU could do with a real refresh, not just a gentle scrub, or being left alone entirely. This is especially true when considering all the homework required to play catch-up, as well as all the loose ends left by previous films and shows (like what can we expect from Kang’s variants? What the hell happened to the Eternals? And what about Jake Lockley? Give us Jake Lockey!).
It’s honestly pretty expected that Marvel will keep doing what they know works, even if it isn’t what is necessarily best for the franchise as a whole (and leaves too many questions unanswered). They can bring back fan- (or personal) favorites to play with again while still bringing in the money they know their returns will promise. And it’s easy enough to keep the actors that want to stay and replace those that are ready to move on to other projects. Although one fan theory makes this approach seem slightly more worth it, saying, “My theory is that Secret Wars ends with Fantastic 4 getting their world restored, and then the MCU going forward takes place in that timeline.” It would keep everything neatly wrapped up, which seems to be the direction that they’re looking to take the franchise in.
