McElhenney is best known for playing Mac on It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, the series he co-created at FX. He also serves as writer, director, and producer on the show.
McElhenney was recently spotted the Minecon Minecraft convention in London.
Warner Bros. is developing the film. Mojang itself was purchased by Microsoft in 2014. So far there have been no details on how the game – which revolves primarily around mining materials to build structures in a digital landscape – will translate to film, but Warner Bros. had quite a success with The LEGO Movie.
