“I was super excited,” Matt Reeves states to The Hollywood Reporter on the red carpet of 2025’s Emmy Awards celebration when asked about handing the script for The Batman: Part II over to Robert Pattinson. “I thought that he really would [like it], because the things that it does for his character, for Batman and for Bruce, I think has never been done before in this way.” Reeves also stresses how essential it is to keep the mysteries of The Batman: Part II hidden before the movie’s release, which teases an intricate and exciting new adventure for the Caped Crusader.

What to Expect From The Batman: Part II

During his brief conversation with The Hollywood Reporter, Matt Reeves revealed that the crew is being prepped to start work on The Batman: Part II ahead of the movie’s filming start in early 2026. “We’re beginning. We’re staffing up. We’re starting to get our crew back together. We’re getting ready. We’re basically entering prep,” he revealed, while also commenting on the time delay between The Batman and its sequel. He stated he wanted to ensure The Batman: Part II had “the best script we could possibly write,” which suggests that the script is now strong enough to finally start production.

Reeves’ comments suggest that The Batman: Part II will continue the best aspect of the original 2022 movie by focusing on being a grounded detective story first and foremost. The Batman saw Pattinson’s Bruce Wayne investigate the Riddler’s attacks against Gotham’s wealthy elite, and having the support of the Gotham City Police Department to enact his vigilante justice. Reeves stated that “trying to protect the secrets of the movie is super important because it’s a mystery, so it would be an extra level of heartbreak if that part of it started getting out,” ensuring this detective style will be repeated.

Robert Pattinson, Jeffrey Wright, Andy Serkis, and Colin Farrell have been confirmed to be reprising their roles in The Batman: Part II, while doubt has been cast on whether Zoë Kravitz will be returning as Catwoman. There has also been speculation that Cristin Milioti could reprise her The Penguin role of Sofia Gigante, especially after her Emmy win, but Matt Reeves seems to have discounted this possibility. Even so, The Batman: Part II is gearing up to be a thrilling new adventure for the Dark Knight in the Batman Epic Crime Saga.
