Right now, we know that Bumblebee will be taking place in the 1980s, and will go for the nostalgic tone of the original Transformers G1 era cartoon. One thing that fans have been wondering about is whether that setting and throwback approach was whether or not we would finally see the original version of Bumblebee from the G1 era – and thanks to the new synopsis for his solo movie, we now have official confirmation that Bumblebee will indeed be getting his retro iconic form for the film.

Bumblebee Bug

As per the officialย Bumblebeeย movie synopsis, released by Paramount:ย

SYNOPSIS:ย On the run in the year 1987,ย Bumblebeeย finds refuge in a junkyard in a small Californian beach town. Charlie (Hailee Steinfeld), on the cusp of turning 18 and trying to find her place in the world, discovers Bumblebee, battle-scarred and broken. When Charlie revives him, she quickly learns this is no ordinary, yellow VW bug.

In case you missed it, the final words of that synopsis give Transformers fans the thrill they’ve been waiting for: Bumblebee will finally appear in live-action in his classic Volkswagonย Bug form!ย

The 1980s VW Bugs were iconic for their unique shape, and it was admittedly odd to see Bumblebee often riding into battle using that particular vehicle form, as it wasn’t the most safe and secure or combat ready car in the world. One has to wonder if the live-actionย Bumblebeeย movie will keep him in that form always, or will reveal a secondary vehicle form that ‘Bee uses.

In any event, the visual alone will be a nice Easter egg for fans to enjoy. It might even cause classic VW Bugs to make a comeback (thanks Ebay!).ย
