Universal Studios have tapped Albert Torres to write Locke and Key, their adaptation of the Joe Hill/Gabriel Rodriguez comic book series from IDW Publishing, The Hollywood Reporter revealed.

The film is the second recent stab at adapting the property, which got a pilot from Fox TV a couple of years ago. It was a hit at Comic Con, but never made it to air.

Locke & Key revolves around three siblings who move to their ancestral home in Maine following the gruesome murder of their father. They soon discover the house has magical keys that give the bearers powers -- but a devious demon also wants the keys.

In addition to the 2008 film Henry Poole is Here, Torres has worked on drafts for Akira at Warner Bros. as well as Ben 10 and the Dark Horse Comics adaptation Hyde.
