Maybe it's because Planet of the Apes is one of my all-time favorite movies, but I've always had a special place in my heart for apes in comic books. For all the other ape fans out, Marvel Comics has a special holiday surprise in store. Marvel Comics has announced Marvel Apes #0, which will feature super powered apes. The zero issue will feature the hero The Gibbon from Amazing Spider-Man #110 and #111 and also the first ever Spider-Monkey story from Amazing Spider-Man Family #1. In addition, the issue will offer a gallery of Marvel Apes variant covers. Marvel Apes #0 will have both a regular cover and a Santa-Ape variant cover, as drawn by Salva Espin. Marvel Apes #0 is written by Stan Lee, Gerry Conway, and Karl Kesel, and the art is by John Romita, Sr. and Ramon Bachs. The regular edition cover is by Arthur Adams. Marvel Apes #0 is scheduled to hit comic stores on December 10, 2008.
