Despite the show's proximity to the movie's release date, James Gunn told his followers on Facebook tonight that there are no plans to screen Guardians of the Galaxy at or around Comic Con International: San Diego this month.

In a lengthy post (embedded below) that dealt primarily with questions around the 17-minute preview being screened at IMAX theaters tomorrow, Gunn told fans that they shouldn't expect any surprises like the whole movie being screened instead -- and that as far as he knows, that won't happen until the movie is out.

In case the embed didn't show up for you, here's the pertinent bit:

"And finally, no, I am sorry we are not planning on showing the film at San Diego Comicon. Really," Junn wrote. "You can see the whole movie August 1 (or whenever it opens in your country). There are no other planned screenings before that time, other than the various premieres."

A screening at the convention itself never seemed particularly likely, since it would be difficult to keep something like that secret and even more difficult to manage crowds in the necessary panel room or hall. Still, local theaters often screen Comic Con-friendly films early the weekend of the show and some fans had speculated that Guardians of the Galaxy would get that treatment, especially as it opens August 1 -- just five days after the convention wraps on July 27.
