Hugh Jackman got a very special visitor at one of his performances of The River on Broadway. That visitor was legendary X-Men scribe Chris Claremont.

Jackman has played Wolverine, the most popular X-Men character, in six different films over the past 15 years. While technically not the character's creator (that credit goes to Len Wein, Roy Thomas, and John Romita), Claremont defined Wolverine - through his 16-year run writing X-Men comics, as well as the first Wolverine solo spinoff – as the character fans, including Jackman, know today. He also wrote several of the X-Men's most beloved stories, several of which have been used as the basis for the the films, including God Loves, Man Kills (X2: X-Men United), The Dark Phoenix Saga (X-Men: The Last Stand), the miniseries that was the basis for The Wolverine, and Days of Future Past. The Gambit film is being based on a treatment by Claremont.

Starstruck. Look who came to the show yesterday. Mr. Chris Claremont. So cool!

Claremont has made a cameo appearance in a couple of the X-Men films (X-Men: The Last Stand and X-Men: Days of Future Past), and has struck up a friendship with Jackman over the years. At a Wolverine exhibit at the Museum of Cartoon and Comic Art in New York, Claremont even named Jackman as one of the most important creative forces in the character's history.

Jackman is wrapping up his time on Broadway. He is rumored, but not confirmed, to appear in X-Men: Apocalypse in 2016, but is expected to return as Logan in a still untitled third Wolverine solo movie in 2017.
