Based on the 1966 novel “A Painted Devil,” the film tells the story of a Union soldier who becomes imprisoned in a Confederate girls’ boarding house. The soldier uses his charm to seduce many of the women in the house, getting them to turn on one another, but he realizes he’s getting more than he bargained for as the women also begin to turn on him.

Prior to The Beguiled, Coppola directed the Netflix special A Very Murray Christmas, and before that was 2013’s The Bling Ring. The Beguiled hits select theaters June 23 and expands to more theaters on June 30.
