When Pulse nightclub shooting survivor, Tony Marrero, appeared on The Ellen Show, he had no idea how big of a surprise host Ellen Degeneres had planned for him. During Thursday's episode of the show, Marrero informed Ellen and the audience that one of the songs that kept him going during the dark times was "Rise" by Katy Perry.

"The lyrics to that song are so powerful. Every word in that song is just powerful, so I embraced it," Marrero explained.

Degeneres then asked, "Have you met Katy yet? Would you like to meet her?"

As Marrero sat with a perplexed expression on his face, he then turned around to see Katy Perry walking towards him with arms open wide.

After Marrero and Perry embraced one another and shed a few tears, Marrero said: "I just want to say thank you for everything you do. Your lyrics to that song helped me from the day I was in the hospital all the way to now. Thank you."

"Life isn't easy and you need little reliefs, through songs possibly," the pop superstar replied. "I'm happy to be a joy, I'm happy to be a light, I'm happy I could be there in my own little way to help you."

Just when you thought the touching moment couldn't get any better, Perry informed Marrero that she had been made aware of his dreams of attending film school and said she "personally" wanted to pay for his first year's tuition.

The Pulse nightclub shooting took place in June and was the deadliest mass shooting in U.S. history claiming the lives of 49 people and injured 53.
