Hey, Christmas isn't over yet!
There's a good possibility that many of you watched Elf some time during the holidays — perhaps even today. The 2003 Christmas comedy film starring Will Ferrell (Talladega Nights) is about Buddy, a human raised as an elf in the North Pole since he was a baby, who travels to New York to find his biological father, discovers a new family, falls in love, and teaches everyone the true meaning of Christmas.
It's a is zany and heartwarming tale, but what if it wasn't? CineFix has recut Elf as creepy psychological thriller. By removing the humor and the fantasy elements, it now appears Buddy was kidnapped as a baby. Now as an adult, after being tortured for years, he has convinced himself that he's an elf to cope with the trauma. So now when he tracks down his father, Buddy is nothing more than a madman.
One Christmas Eve a long time ago, a baby crawled into Santa's bag of toys... Raised as an elf, Buddy grows into an adult three times larger than the biggest elf--and realizes that he will never truly fit in at the North Pole. This holiday season, Buddy goes looking for his true place in the world--in New York City. Buddy finds his workaholic father…who's on Santa's "naughty" list, a new mother and a 10-year-old brother who doesn't believe in Santa Claus or elves. Here, now, Buddy discovers his destiny…to save Christmas for New York and the world!
Elf (2003) cast features Will Ferrell, James Caan, Bob Newhart, Edward Asner, Mary Steenburgen, and Zooey Deschanel.
