Star Wars: The Internet Can’t Handle How Cute The Porgs Are

The votes are in, and it turns out people love the Porgs, Star Wars: The Last Jedi‘s furry friends.

Over the years, Star Wars has given fans plenty of adorable sidekicks to fawn over. The Ewoks made audiences awe in the original trilogy, and BB-8 had Star Wars fans cooing over its debut in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Now, the franchise’s eighth episode has unveiled its own furry sidekick, and the Internet cannot handle how cute the Porgs are.

Earlier today, Entertainment Weekly released a slew of photos from Star Wars: The Last Jedi. One image sees Chewbacca sitting in what appears to be the Millennium Falcon, and the Wookie is joined by a special friend. A wide-eyed creature known as a Porg is shown looking out into the stars in mild concern, and fans are in love.

Sites like Twitter are being flooded with fans cooing over the adorable creature. Previous reports about the Star Wars feature did alert fans to the arrival of the Porgs, but this is the first high-quality image to be released of the animal. The species appears to resemble a penguin, and it has spindly legs like a bird. Its fur is a mix of various earthy tones, and Porgs complete their cute look with a flattened snout and wide eyes.

According to Entertainment Weekly, the Porgs will be an important piece of The Last Jedi as they act as Luke Skywalker’s longtime companions. “These penguin-like wide-eyed creatures are native to the planet of Ahch-To, site of the first Jedi temple, and they’re just one type of new creature [the Star Wars film introduces].”
