Star Wars fans (and many others) heavily mourned the loss of Carrie Fisher late last year. The Princess Leia actress collapsed on a plane and was hospitalized in critical condition, before finally passing away in the hospital four days later. Her mother, actress Debbie Reynolds died a day after that, only adding to the tragedy.
The cause for Fisher's apparent heart attack on the plane was never really explained - until now, as a Los Angeles County Coroner has revealed the official cause of the Carrie Fisher's death.
THR reports that the coroner's official ruling is that Fisher died from sleep apnea "and a combination of other factors," though the exact cause was never determined. Her death will ultimately be listed as "undetermined."
Carrie Fisher's brother Todd had the following statement, following the announcement of the coroner's findings:
"We're not enlightened. There's nothing about this that is enlightening...I would tell you, from my perspective that there's certainly no news that Carrie did drugs."
In the end, this news will do little to assuage the legion of fans who are still mourning the loss of their Star Wars princess. It really doesn't matter how she left us - what matters is that she's gone, and can never be replaced.
Fisher's portrayal of Leia will go down in history as one of the most iconic performances in cinema. And though her absence has affected her family and friends, her legacy in show business will have a lasting impact on everyone she interacted with.
We look forward to enjoying her final performance as Leia when Star Wars: The Last Jedi opens in theaters Decembers 15.
