When Rogue One: A Star Wars Story was announced, many wondered how directly it would tie into the main films given that it told the story of the group of rebels who stole the Death Star plans from the Empire.
โจThese events are directly referenced in the opening crawl to Star Wars: A New Hope, and fans were pleasantly surprised when the new movie directly fed into the classic. And now that the film is out on Digital HD, Vimeo user Barre Fong has taken the ending of the spinoff and edited it to feed right into the opening moments of the original Star Wars film.
The original movie began with a Star Destroyer in hot pursuit of a Rebel transport disguised as a diplomatic vessel. The opening battle as the Empire’s Stormtroopers infiltrated the ship served as the first glimpse of the galactic struggle that would unfold over the rest of the trilogy.

And now with the editing of the final moments of Rogue One, people are given greater context as the plans narrowly escape being recovered by Darth Vader, who mercilessly slaughters many of the fighters blasting at him.
The scene also shows how well Rogue One’s director Gareth Edwards and the production crew recreated the sets, costumes, and feel of the original Star Wars movie. The two scenes blend together extremely well, and it has us wanting a supercut of both films taking place back to back.
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is now out on Digital HD and will be released on Blu-ray and DVD on April 4.
