Star Wars: The Last Jedi is on track for a massive opening weekend, but the blockbuster's returns could be impacted by a low audience score — the lowest of any live-action Star Wars film.

Lucasfilm's latest is proving controversial among fans but is among the highest-rated installments of the saga by critics: The Last Jedi wields a 93% approval rating on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, tying it with 2015's franchise revival Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

Rotten Tomatoe's audience score reports only 56% of audiences "liked it" — giving The Last Jedi the lowest audience score of all eight episodes.

The Empire Strikes Back boasts the highest audience approval with 97%, tailed by A New Hope's 96% and Return of the Jedi's 94%. J.J. Abrams' The Force Awakens carries an 88% audience approval rating, placing it just ahead of Rogue One's 87%.

The Last Jedi's 56% audience approval puts it behind George Lucas' prequel trilogy, falling short of Revenge of the Sith's 65%, The Phantom Menace's 59% and Attack of the Clones' 57%.

Outside of the franchise, viewers responses to The Last Jedi are even lower than Justice League's, despite the Warner Bros. superhero team up receiving a 40% "rotten" from critics.

The Last Jedi opened Thursday night to strong preview sales, placing it behind only The Force Awakens for biggest ever preview night box office.

Starring Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Benicio del Toro, Laura Dern, Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill, Star Wars: The Last Jedi is now playing.
