Thanks to a video release by The Walking Dead‘s home network AMC, a fully animated version of Volume 1 of The Walking Dead comics is now available for viewing featuring the artwork of original artist Tony Moore and the voice of Phil LaMarr.
For those fans who haven’t been able to pick up the early issues of the comic to see how The Walking Dead TV series compares to its source material, this is a great way to get a look at the earliest apocalyptic days of Rick Grimes. It starts with his getting shot, which sent him into a coma, and runs right up to the point where he gets whacked in the back of a head with a shovel just outside of Atlanta.
The comic seen in this Volume 1 animation was adapted to television in The Walking Dead‘s first season. The events were quite accurately adapted, seeing Rick Grimes struggle to escape the hospital and finding himself at the mercy of Morgan Jones. Throughout the seven seasons which will follow the show’s earliest episode, the AMC series has managed to follow its source material in word for word fashion at times, while also taking left turns to create stories exclusive to television.
