There's a new Hocus Pocus coming to TV, but the original director thinks it might be more fun to just have a sequel in its place.

A reimagining of the original Hocus Pocus is in the works, which will bring in a new cast and more modern elements. It will also bring in a new director, and while original Hocus Pocus helmer Kenny Ortega is down for whatever they want to do, he does hope a sequel eventually happens.

"More power to 'em!" Ortega told ET. "I would like to see a sequel, and I think that the fans would like to see a sequel."

Ortega doesn't seem opposed to the reimagining but does believe a sequel could be more fun.

"I think it would be much more fun to bring the ladies back," Ortega said. "They're all still vital and in their prime and capable of doing so much that it would be great to see Bette and Kathy and Sarah come back together to do another movie and I think they would like to."

The original Hocus Pocus debuted in 1993 and starred Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy as witches who wreaked havoc in Salem Massachusetts. They were eventually hanged for their villainy but ended up resurrected 300 years later, with the only thing stopping them from taking over once again being a few teenagers and an immortal cat.

For their part, the original cast seems to be up for another round of witchcraft. That especially goes for Midler, who told fans it really is up to them to tell Disney its something they want.

"Inundate the Disney company," Midler said on Reddit. "Because I have canvassed the girls and they are willing to do it, but we have no say in it, so if you want a Hocus Pocus 2, ask the Walt Disney company. You have been SO adorable. This has been most enlightening. SISTAHS! And don't go chasing waterfalls..."

As for the remake, Ortega wants the studio to create something all their own.

"I don't think you have to recreate the magic," Ortega said. "I think you start all over and make new magic."

Either way, a Hocus Pocus of some kind is coming soon, though the reimagining currently has no release date.
