Major Fox Animated Series Seemingly Ending After 5 Years (Without Renewal Hopes)

Fox’s Animation Domination line up is kicking in once more later this Fall, but it seems like one of its biggest shows is coming to an end after five years without any news for a renewal just yet. Fox has revealed a much greater commitment to their adult animated franchises in the last few years as they recently renewed some of their longest running hits like The Simpsons, Bob’s Burgers and Family Guy for four more seasons each. But it wasn’t just these longer series that got renewals either as many of the other shows have been picked up for multiple seasons too.

It’s not the same case for The Great North, however. As each of the other Animation Domination hits have been picked up for additional seasons taking their work through to next year, it’s unfortunately been quiet as to whether or not The Great North has had a chance at renewal too. But as it prepares to air its final two episodes for its fifth season later this evening, it seems like The Great North‘s time has come to an end with five seasons and 97 episodes. At least until a renewal potentially comes through.

The Great North Will Seemingly End After Five Seasons and 97 Episodes

Fox’s Animation Domination will be kicking in with a new block of episodes beginning on September 28th for its Fall 2025 season. The schedule will be including new episodes of The Simpsons, Bob’s Burgers, Universal Basic Guys, and Krapopolis. While The Simpsons, Bob’s Burgers, Family Guy and even a returning American Dad! have been renewed for four more seasons each with Fox, the other shows are not too far behind either. Krapopolis has been renewed through its own Season 5, and Universal Basic Guys and Grimsburg have both been renewed for Season 3 before their second seasons premiere.

But as The Great North approaches its Season 5 finale (with an unceremonious release of its final two episodes as part of the shifted Animation Domination schedule through the Summer), there’s been no news of a potential sixth season. Making fans even more anxious is this newest social media post from the series’ Instagram page that fans should watch “every” of its available 97 episodes. Things are taken even further with the pleas that fans should watch before it ends (with a “please” under it), and all signs are pointing that this is the end of its run.

What Happens to The Great North Now?

If The Great North does indeed end with Season 5 of the animated series, then it’s a very impressive run for any animated show with Fox. It might not have, unfortunately, had the same legs as The Simpsons or Bob’s Burgers, but it’s still an impressive number of episodes to be had overall. It’s a much longer run than much weaker shows got the chance to air like Housebroken, and it does reveal that Fox is giving its animated franchises a long enough chance to find success with fans.

If you wanted to check out The Great North, all of its episodes are now streaming with Hulu and Hulu on Disney+. There’s a chance that it still could get picked up for new episodes in the future, but with the rest of the Animation Domination line up all getting their own renewals long ahead of this point, this really might be it with its final two episodes airing on Sunday, September 14th.
