Appearing at the Paley Center this week, Arrow and The Flash showrunner Greg Beralnti confirmed that he is involved with a Supergirl TV series currently in the very early stages at Warner Bros. Television.

"We're just starting to work on it," Berlanti told CBR News. "We haven't gone to the networks yet, so. I'll be happy, very excited to talk about it once we know where its home will be and that kind of stuff, but not at this moment. "

That it hasn't gone out to networks seemingly contradicts earlier reports that The CW had passed on it. If true that The CW wasn't interested, it seems that they were given right of first refusal.

It may be that they didn't see where it would fit into their Arrow and The Flash plans and it didn't make sense to have another DC superhero with an unconnected show. That, of course, is just speculation.

Reportedly, they won't use the name "Supergirl" in the title, although both Super and Girl are being considered. It's not clear at this stage whether the show would stand alone or be connected to either one of DC's other TV projects or the DC Cinematic Universe. It seems most likely that final decision would be made after a network is chosen.

Former New 52 Supergirl writer Michael Green, a producer on Smallville and Heroes, was reported to be part of the pitch for the series, but that report was later contradicted. Green has the Neil Gaiman adaptation American Gods on his plate for the near future.
