Chadwick Boseman Signed For Five Film Deal As Marvel Studios Adds Diversity To Lineup

Marvel has big plans for the Black Panther as actor Chadwick Boseman has been signed to a lucrative five-film deal, Deadline reports.

Boseman is scheduled to appear in Captain America: Civil War and will reprise his role as the Wakandan superhero in a stand-alone film slated to be released in November, 2017. While Boseman will join other diverse characters, he is the first non-white superhero to receive a solo movie from Marvel Studios.

Also announced at the Phase 3 unveiling event was Captain Marvel which is slated for a 2018 release. Like Black Panther, the Captain Marvel film will provide diversity to the superhero lineup making her the first super heroine to get a standalone movie from the studio.

Deadline reports that when asked if Marvel would hire African-American or female directors for the Black Panther and Captain Marvel movies, Feige was nondescript in his reply. "We're looking for the best directors possible," he said, acknowledging that producer-director Reginald Hudlin is one filmmaker with Marvel ties. The Django Unchained producer actually penned the Black Panther comics in the 2000s. "Reggie I've known for many years and is a great guy — I think I'm meeting him again shortly."

If Feige is meeting Hudlin "again," it begs to question if there's any connection to the recent meeting of Hudlin, Halle Berry, Djimon Honsou, and the Russo Brothers.

Only time will tell.
