Today at their slate unveiling in Los Angeles, Marvel Studios announced Inhumans will be coming to theaters on November 2, 2018.

Coming from the studio in November, the film will take the slot on the schedule that films like Thor: The Dark WorldBlack Panther and Doctor Strange have inhabited before it, which may give a sense for either the tone or expected box office receipts of the film.

The Inhumans, created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, first appeared in the early days of The Fantastic Four. They're a race of superhumans created by the Kree, who experimented on early man in an effort to win their long-running war with the Skrulls.

Given the plot of Guardians of the Galaxy, it wouldn't be surprising if a similar approach is used to their origin in the movies, except that rather than Skrulls (who may or may not be owned by Fox for the purposes of motion pictures) it could be the Nova Corps whose war created the race.

Most of the stories involving the Inhumans have revolved around the royal family, including Black Bolt and Medusa, the king and queen. Their powers were activated by Terrigen Mists, and recently a Terrigen bomb was set off in New York, creating numerous new Inhumans.

On Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., a dead, blue-skinned alien that healed injuries to both Agent Coulson and Skye has led some fans to believe that both of them could turn out to be Inhumans as a result. There is alternate speculation that Skye was already either Kree or Inhuman. It's also been suggested that The Obelisk seen on the show might in fact be a Terrigen crystal.

A feature-length animated film based on the award-winning Inhumans miniseries by Paul Jenkins and Jae Lee is available from Marvel Knights Animation, but the characters have not been previously adapted to live action.
