Loki's scepter from Marvel's The Avengers contained one of the Infinity Stones that will be fitted into the Infinity Gauntlet during Avengers: Infinity War Part I and Part II, Kevin Feige confirmed today at the rollout for Marvel's Phase Three film slate.

That dovetails nicely with his other big announcement: that Tom Hiddleston will reprise his role as Loki in Thor: Ragnarok, leaving the 2017 sequel perfectly situated to set the stage for Infinity War.

In the comics, Loki helped to precipitate the Ragnarok storyline (or at least one of the stories named that -- there have been a few) by freeing Surtur and a number of other villains from custody on Asgard. Having spent some time in custody there himself, and currently sitting on Asgard's throne, Loki is in a uniquely convenient position to do just that.
