Those elaborate rumors about The Incredible Hulk being a key component of Guardians of the Galaxy 2, and the film setting up Avengers: Infinity War Part 1 are apparently false, according to Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn.

During an interview with MTV, the filmmaker was asked how much freedom he had to set up the stories he wanted in future Guardians movies, despite the fact that the Marvel Universe is all interconnected and Infinity War presumably has "dibs" on Thanos.

"I don't feel beholden to that stuff at all. I think it's really about the Guardians and what they are doing," Gunn said. "We're not subservient to the Avengers. Guardians 2 is not a movie that's made to move toward Infinity War. It's something that's made to move toward future cosmic movies, so I don't feel that that is something that affects me that much."

The film is in theaters on May 5, 2017.
