Gremlins reboot producer Seth Grahame-Smith has given a progress report on the eighties revival, and it's not a good one.

Following the news last year that a Gremlins reboot was being fast-tracked, Grahame-Smith told Entertainment Weekly this week that the project has "run out of steam."

According to the writer, the quasi-reboot would have featured a new cast of characters, while also acknowledging the events of the first two Gremlins films. Grahame-Smith brought his treatment for the film to Steven Spielberg and Chris Columbus, who executive produced and wrote the original Gremlins, respectively, but apparently could not find any traction afterward.

"I think we ran out of steam," Grahame-Smith told Entertainment Weekly. "Everybody got busy doing other things."
