Marvel Teases The End Of Miles Morales: Ultimate Spider-Man

Marvel Comics is teasing the end of Miles Morales: Ultimate Spider-Man with issue #12 in April.

The solicitation for the issue, which is written by Brian Michael Bendis and drawn by David Marquez, calls it “The Epic Conclusion,” with the question “Is this the end?” as the only further description.

This isn’t all that surprising when you consider the Ultimate Universe: The End #1 teaser released by Marvel as part of the Secret Wars hype. Of course, both the Ultimate Spider-Man series, and the Ultimate Universe itself, have ended before, only to rise from the ashes in a new form, so we’ll see how this all goes down.

It’s often been speculated that, even if Marvel does decide to permanent end its Ultimate line, the company would still find a way to save Morales, since he is the most popular and well-received creation to be introduced in the Ultimate Universe. So even if this is the end of the Ultimate Universe and the Ultimate Spider-Man comic book, there’s a chance that Miles’ adventures could continue elsewhere, or in another form.

Coincidently, the cover to Miles Morales: Ultimate Spider-Man #12 bears a resemblance to the “universe ending” effect employed by Chip Kidd in his variant covers for DC Comics’ Convergence event.

Miles Morales: Ultimate Spider-Man #12 ships in April.

I love Miles. No way he's going anywhere.

  1. Oh my God, those bastards! They're killing him with a Chip Kidd Convergence variant!

...Seriously, when did it become a thing to just have half the art gone?!

Edit: Okay, so I didn't notice Jamie pointed that out in-story.

  2. Meh, I'm not worried, comic book characters always die only to come back latter.

Iron fist is my all time favorite character and he died too, and it was huge! It completly destroyed Luke Cage, Danny's death seemed pretty final yet he came back several years latter.

I'm sure the same will happen to Miles Morals, even if his death looks big and important, even if we don't see him for a decade, he'll be back!

  3. This artwork reminds me a lot of the Zero Hour event back in the nineties. It kind of worked ss a reset for DC. With the whole Spider-verse thing going on, I wouldn't be surprised to see miles pulled out of the ending Ultimate universe to find a home in 616 along side Peter. Maybe he'll become a West Coast Spider-man and work with Daredevil.

I always did wonder why Peter never quite got around to basically organizing the other 'Spider-People' and essentially do a Batman Inc. with different yet affiliated Spider-Men/Women in different areas. Plus I think Miles would be pretty well suited as a protege of Daredevil to be honest, he's still a minor (I think) and Daredevil and Spider-Man were always a fun team up, plus it let's him be a mentor. Give him another spidery name other than Spider-Man.
