While most can't seem to wait for Avengers: Age of Ultron to arrive in theaters, several theaters in Germany are refusing to let the film play on their screens. The move is part of a Disney boycott, hoping to draw attention to and change certain business practices that small theaters owners find unfair and threatening to their very existence.
Disney wants theaters to pay back 53 percent of total ticket sales for the movies they screen, an amount some theater owners in Northern Germany find untenable. While theaters in larger German cities have already agreed to pay the amount, smaller theaters say that any amount over 50 percent is a threat. They fear that if they agree to Disney's terms now, other studios will follow suit and eventually price small theater owners out of their own businesses.
Disney has not yet commented on the matter.
Avengers: Age of Ultron opens April 23 in Germany, and May 1 in the United States.
