While promoting his latest action film, Tom Cruise revealed that he has an idea for an Edge of Tomorrow sequel and that he has already spoken to his Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation director Christopher McQuarrie as well and Edge of Tomorrow director Doug Liman about it.

"I pitched it to McQuarrie and Doug," Cruise told MTV. "We were there one night and I was like, 'I've got an idea for it.' … It could be so much fun."

Cruise has also approached his co-star Emily Blunt about reprising her role as Sergeant Rita Vrataski (aka "Full Metal B*tch", "The Angel of Verdun"), but she needs some time before she can commit to it.

"Gotta get Emily [Blunt]," Cruise added. "I was like, 'Emily, please.' She was like, 'Give me another year, please.'"

The 2014 film was well received by critics and audiences, but its $178M production budget ate into its $370M worldwide box office gross--making a green light for a sequel a bit more challenging.

When Earth falls under attack from invincible aliens, no military unit in the world is able to beat them. Maj. William Cage (Tom Cruise), an officer who has never seen combat, is assigned to a suicide mission. Killed within moments, Cage finds himself thrown into a time loop, in which he relives the same brutal fight -- and his death -- over and over again. However, Cage's fighting skills improve with each encore, bringing him and a comrade (Emily Blunt) ever closer to defeating the aliens.
