A Friday the 13th TV series is in the work at The CW, according to Deadline. CW Network head Mark Pedowitz confirmed the news that they are working on an hour long drama series based on the popular horror movie franchise.

Steve Mitchell & Craig Van Sickle, who created The Pretender TV series, have been hired to write the series. Randall Emmett, George Furla, Mark Canton, Sean S. Cunningham are among the executive producers on the series.

While there are few details on the series, Deadline reports "the idea had been to do a contemporary series focusing on the eclectic characters of Crystal Lake who are forced to confront the return of the killer, as new secrets about his wacky family are revealed."

The series will feature Jason Voorhees, but he is reportedly being reimagined with a stronger feel of grounded reality.

It also might be awhile before the series makes it to air, as Pedowitz revealed that they were new in development on the series.
