Marvel Dominates August 2015 Sales With Wars Secret, Star, and Civil

Marvel Comics continued their direct market domination in August 2015, according to Diamond Comics Distribution's latest sales report. The company had seven of the top ten best selling individual issues of the month, on the backs of their Secret Wars crossover event and the Star Wars line. We now live in a world where a comic book starring Lando Calrissian has outsold every Superman, Green Lantern, X-Men, and Avengers title on the shelves.
That all means Marvel came away with a 36.67% dollar share and 40.13% unit share, putting them more than 11% and more than 13%, respectively, ahead of DC Comics, who still came in at second place. Only Batman and Justice League cracked the top ten for DC, with the latter coming in a spot lower than The Walking Dead #145, the only non-DC or Marvel title at #7. Likewise, the latest volume of The Walking Dead lead the graphic novel and collection category, with four other Image Comics titles also falling into the top ten for collections.
In the toys category, the "Batgirl of Burnside" black and white statue based on Babs Tarr's new-look Batgirl was the best seller of August. Black Widow, Lois Lane, and Vampirella also all cracked the top ten, showing demand for female characters figures and statues.
Sales look down from July to August, but July was also a five Wednesday month, which automatically boosts its numbers. Year over year, sales are marginally up for monthly books and saw a large 16% growth for graphic novels. Year-to-date, things are reversed, with a higher percentage growth for monthlies than collections, though both have seen a steady rise.
