During a Twitter Q&A with fans yesterday, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 writer/director James Gunn confirmed that, yes, both the film's villain and Star-Lord's father have been cast for the sequel.
One fan's question as to whether it took more than one actor to cast those two roles wasn't answered.
The notion that the role or roles have been filled isn't all that surprising when you consider that James Gunn has been teasing table reads and early rehearsals with members of the cast on social media this week.
Some other highlights of his tweet-session:
I did offer the option: Guardians of the Galaxy: Another Movie with Them https://t.co/ZdVKhPabc1— James Gunn (@JamesGunn) January 29, 2016
I don’t think of those two things as opposites. https://t.co/6AFsSTlmqH— James Gunn (@JamesGunn) January 29, 2016
Yes @tyler_bates is scoring Vol 2 and we already have the first cues and they are AWESOME. https://t.co/rW2eF9IAsu— James Gunn (@JamesGunn) January 29, 2016
James Gunn (Slither, Super), co-writer and director of 2014’s Guardians of the Galaxy, will return to write and direct the sequel, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. It is scheduled to hit theaters on May 5, 2017. The cast of the first film -- minus Benicio del Toro and Lee Pace -- will return for the film, which will also introduce Pom Klementieff in an as-yet-unconfirmed role.
