Flashdance star Jennifer Beals will play the female lead in NBC's upcoming Taken prequel TV series, Deadline reports.

The site says Beals will play Christina Hart, the Special Deputy Director of National Intelligence who has taken Mills under her wing. Cultured and powerful with a wealth of field experience, her current government position has her overseeing an elite team of operatives who take care of America's national security emergencies.

She will star opposite Clive Standen in the series, which will also be called Taken.

The drama is described as a modern-day prequel to the franchise's films. Rather than a capable retired CIA veteran, we'll see Bryan Mills in his early days of his career learning how to gain those skills. Perhaps, down the line, we'll even see how he met Lenore.

Standen's Bryan Mills will begin his adventures as a black ops agent in the elite Emergency Covert Action Team. Homeland's Alexander Cary will write the series and executive produce with Taken writer/producer Luc Besson.
