"We just shot a scene with Chris Pratt and Kurt Russell," Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn said at the beginning of his live stream on Facebook from the set of the upcoming Marvel Studios film. "I cannot show you - they are in their costumes - but it was magnificent and really exciting."
The hype is real, people. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 has a high bar to reach in order to please fans and not fall victim to sequel syndrome but Gunn is as enthusiastic a director as they come.
Gunn's girlfriend, actress Jen Holland agreed with his excitement over the scene with Pratt and Russell, saying, "Loved it. I think it's gonna be great."
We can only imagine how fun the set of Guardians must be. The cast is constantly sharing photos and laughing in behind-the-scenes clips but with that fun comes a sense of family. During the same broadcast, Gunn shared a moment he and our Star-Lord shared just a bit prior to talking to all of us.
"About an hour ago, I was sitting with Chris [Pratt] and I said, 'You know what, we're really truly blessed that we have this group of people around us,'" Gunn says."We're working with Kurt Russell who has been an absolute delight."
He even went a bit further while talking about Russell, who most recently starred in The Hateful Eight, saying, "He is really so committed to the role he is playing," among a few other compliments.

While the scene shot today involving Pratt's Peter Quill and Russell's unnamed character was dubbed a "jaw dropping moment" by Gunn, he went on to share another highlight from the production, which is 20 days in. "Yesterday, we had a really truly jaw dropping moment, a wonderful moment with Pom [Klementeiff], who plays Mantis," adding that she "fits the role so perfectly that it's shocking."
Back to what he said about Peter Quill and Russell's character, one has to wonder if it was a scene in which Quill discovers the identity of his father. We'll find out in 2017.
One year before Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 makes its way to theaters, though, we'll be treated to another Marvel Studios project you may have heard of: Captain America: Civil War. The Guardians director has seen the film and boasted about its excellence several times but today he revealed his alliance to be "Team Iron Man," because he can "see Iron Man's point of view." It will be interesting to see which side people line up with after seeing the movie, like Gunn has, considering fans have been widely split as anticipation builds.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 hits theaters May 5, 2017.
