Earlier this month, the Pokemon Company revealed the three Starter Pokemon for Pokemon Sun and Pokemon Moon, the newest Pokemon games out later this year. While the Internet embraced the adorable grass owl Rowlet and cool fire cat Litten with open arms, Pokemon fans rejected the water seal Popplio emphatically, practically tossing him back into the ocean and demanding a redo. Now, a Japanese polling site has released a list of "Seriously Useless Starter Pokemon" compiled from an online poll with over 1300 respondents run earlier this month.

Earlier this month, the Japanese polling site Goo Rankings ran an online poll asking which Starter Pokemon they felt were the "most useless" to use in their respective Pokemon games. While there were only 18 options, some of the results were definitely a surprising. Topping the list was Chikorita, the Grass type Starter for Pokemon Gold, Silver and Crystal with a whopping 166 votes. Considering that Chikorita is probably the weakest of all the Starters and never had a type advantage in any of the Johto gyms, its inclusion probably doesn't come as a surprise.Finishing in second was Piplup, the Water Starter for Pokemon Diamond, Pearl and Platinum with 122 votes. Again, Piplup had limited type advantages in early Gym Battles, but its eventual evolution Empoleon is a pretty badass Water/Steel hybrid, so we're not sure why the Water Penguin placed so high on the list.

From there, the poll results get pretty infuriating. Finishing in third was Bulbasaur (with 121 votes), while its fellow Kanto starter Squirtle came in fourth with 99 votes. Considering that both Bulbasaur and Squirtle have humongous advantages in the early portions of Pokemon Red and Blue, it's almost insulting that they placed higher than Charmander, which finished in sixth place. Also in the top ten are Chespin, Turtwig, Treeko, Froakie and Tepig.

Nothing about any of this top ten list makes any sense, and any poll that ranks Bulbasaur so highly on a list of worthless Pokemon should be heavily scrutinized. Bulbasaur is first in the National Pokedex for a reason and it appears that some fans need to learn a thing or two about respecting the most beloved starter of all time.

On a scale of one to ten, how mad do these poll results make you? Leave your outpourings of anger in the comments below!
