Besides the constantly crashing servers, one of players' biggest complaints in Pokemon Go was the lack of PokeStops and Pokemon Gyms in rural areas and less traveled parts of town. Niantic Labs used the Portal locations from their first game Ingress as the source for Pokemon Go's PokeStops and Pokemon Gyms, so areas that didn't have an active Ingress player were underrepresented when Pokemon Go came out last week.
However, Niantic has unveiled a new system to request PokeStops and Pokemon Gyms in your area. You can visit Pokemon Go's support page and fill out a ticket to request a local landmark or business be added to Pokemon Go's map. It helps to know the address and latitude/longitude of the location you're requesting, which can usually be found via your Google Map app. Due to the volume of requests Niantic is getting, it will probably take several weeks to respond and Niantic may not approve every request.
The same form will also allow businesses and organizations to request their location be removed from Pokemon Go. Several businesses and museums have complained that Pokemon Go is either inappropriate or harmful for their business. If you're trying to remove your location/home/business from Pokemon Go, be sure to note that you're the owner or official representative as Niantic seems to be a lot more responsive to those request.
Pokemon Go is available in the United States, Australia, New Zealand, Germany and the United Kingdom.
