The DC Comics show will be the third at Fox, with Gotham returning for its third season in a couple of weeks and Lucifer going into its second. Berlanti and Schechter will executive produce the pilot with Salim and Mara Brock Akil writing the television adaptation of the comic.
Should Black Lightning reach series, it will follow Jefferson Pierce, a character who made his choice years ago to hang up his suit and secret identity. However, his hell-bent on justice, star student daughter being recruited into a local gang pulls him back into the vigilante game as the DC Comics hero: Black Lightning.
The character was created by Tony Isabella and Trevor Von Eeden, first appearing in Black Lightning #1 in April 1977.
Berlanti and Schechter are currently producing The Flash, Arrow, Supergirl, and Legends of Tomorrow which all call the CW home. Naturally, with the same names behind each of these shows, the question of a crossover jumps into the mind of all comic book TV fans but no word on whether or not it’s possible just yet.
